You’re lying on your bed scrolling through Insta reels, and out of nowhere, suddenly appear guys flexing Lamborghinis, sipping champagne, and partying with hot chicks in a fancy Dubai penthouse.
They claim they’ve cracked the code to financial freedom and are now “giving it back” by teaching you how to do the same.
Sounds tempting. They’re living the dream, right?
Wrong. They’re just selling you dreams.
They’re not rich because of their methods. They’re rich because they scam people while showing off a fake luxurious lifestyle.
This is the dark reality of trading on the internet. A pyramid of illusions built on fake gurus, fake success stories, and pure manipulation.
Let me break it down for you.
1) The origin story: “I was just like you”
Almost every fake guru selling a “get-rich-quick scheme” starts with the same relatable struggle story:
“I used to work a 9-to-5 job I hated”.
“I was drowning in debt with no way out”.
“Then I discovered a secret method that changed everything overnight”.
Sounds familiar, right?
The reality is, it’s a well-fabricated story designed to make you think:
“If they made it, I can make it too”.
Most of them never struggled the way they claim. Many already come from wealthy families or had businesses before becoming internet furus.
And the darker reality?
They got rich by scamming people and selling a flamboyant lifestyle. It’s all designed to gain your trust and exploit you.
2) The fake credibility & social proof game
Once they’ve got your attention and trust, they start faking credibility.
Here’s how they do it:
- Fake Followers & Engagement: They buy followers on Instagram and YouTube to look successful.
- Paid PR features on big publications and media channels.
- Flexing money & wealth: Flashy cars, stacks of cash, luxurious watches, penthouses, and everything that looks “successful”.
The dark reality: that guru with a million followers on Instagram? A huge chunk of them are bots or purchased followers.
And all that luxury and money flex? Most of it is rented or staged. They know that showing off money makes people think, “This guy must be legit”.
And Paid PR? They literally pay websites to publish articles like “From Broke to Millionaire in 6 Months!” only to lure you and get you hooked.
3) The money flex: creating FOMO and making you question yourself
These fake gurus understand the psychological power of flexing money and luxury.
This is how they use it against you:
The “living the dream” lifestyle
They show rented cars, private jets, luxury parties, and fake riches to make you think they’ve figured life out. The message is simple: “Why aren’t you living like this?”
The subtle attack on your self-worth
Every flex is designed to make you feel behind in life. They don’t say it directly, but the message is clear: “If I can do it, why can’t you?”
Jealousy & envy
Watching them live a luxurious lifestyle triggers insecurity and comparison.
You start thinking, “Why am I not there yet?”
Eventually, you start believing that trading is your ticket to getting rich “quickly”.
4) Selling the dream, not the real knowledge or process
These fake gurus know exactly how to manipulate your emotions. They sell you a dream, not the reality behind it.
Promises of Quick Success
Instead of teaching real skills or telling you the truth about trading, they sell instant gratification.
“Get rich in 30 days”.
“Become a millionaire overnight”.
Sounds familiar?
The reality is that success doesn’t work like that. There’s no magical shortcut.
Selling the dream life, not the knowledge
They sell the image, not the process. In the end, you’re left with nothing but unrealistic dreams because they never truly educated you.
Real ones educate with transparency. They don’t hide the reality. They help you evolve with real knowledge and teach you how to implement it.
That’s what creates lasting success.
That’s the principle I believe in, and that’s exactly what I try to do through my articles with complete transparency.
5) Selling courses and resources, but deceitfully
Selling courses, e-books, or resources isn’t wrong, no matter the niche. It’s a legitimate business model, and there’s nothing wrong with having multiple income streams.
In fact, multiple income streams can act as a strong hedge against uncertain and risky businesses like trading.
Everything around us involves business in some way. Running a genuine business is never the problem.
The problem is selling courses or products by deceiving people with false dreams. And that’s exactly what these fake gurus do.
I understand the pain because years ago, I was genuinely in the same position as many of you reading this right now. But I never got lured in by fake gurus showcasing rented lifestyles and fake shortcuts.
I chose the longer route of educating myself, learning deeply, and mastering the process instead of chasing shortcuts or secret strategies that don’t exist.
Selling something real isn’t the issue. Selling it through manipulation and deception is.
Be honest: have you ever believed a fake guru online at some point? Name them.
You’re a Gambler. Not a Trader. Here’s Why
